Yellow, orange, red, purple and brown are the colours of autumn, the wonderful shades that the leaves of the trees take on with the arrival of the autumn period. Foliage is a real feast for the eyes and there are many places around Lucca where you can admire this phenomenon: today we want to highlight our favourite places, all within a few minutes by car (and on foot!) from our B&B in Lucca.
The Royal Villa of Marlia
A 10-minute drive from our b&b is one of the most beautiful villas in Italy: the Royal Villa of Marlia. The monumental complex, which is worth visiting, is surrounded by a park of 16 hectares and its colours and scents will envelop you as soon as you enter, the vegetation around the lake will surprise you with its orange and bright red foliage.
Parole d’Oro in Guamo
On the slopes of Monte Pisano on the Lucchese side and more precisely in the hamlet of Guamo, there is a truly fascinating place that in autumn sees its colours change between dense vegetation and tall chestnut trees: it is Parole d’Oro; a hydraulic engineering work created by the architect Nottolini and commissioned by Elisa Bonaparte, Napoleon’s sister, to bring water from the springs of Monte Pisano to the city of Lucca. Do you want to know a secret? Walking along the springs, on the left side, look up, you will see delicious and sweet red fruits hanging from the trees: these are the strawberry trees, excellent for jams.
Autumn walk on the Walls of Lucca
On foot, using the climb on the Mura which is located a few steps from our B&B, or using the bicycles available at our structure, you can enjoy the spectacle offered by the trees that accompany the whole ring of over 4km of our wonderful Renaissance walls. We also recommend a visit to the Botanical Garden of Lucca, which can be accessed from the descent of the Baluardo San Regolo: you will not be disappointed!
